This book is an excellent source of the epic struggle of the Greek people against the Italian and German invaders during the Second World War.
At a time when most other countries were collapsing, including mighty France, while others were either neutral (such as the United States) or collaborating with the Germans (such as the Soviet Union), Greece not only resisted the invaders, but became the first country to actually win territory from the Axis powers by capturing a large part of Albania from Italy.
This book describes in a very vivid way the dramatic struggle of the Greek people, in a way that captures the interest of the reader. It is plenty of historical details, that are otherwise not well known to the general public. I believe it is at least as important as the Histories of Herodotus, that describes the victory of the ancient Greeks against the Persian invaders. While reading it, there were many moments I was drawn to tears when reading about the great sacrifices that my ancestors had to go through at that time.
I wish that this book can be translated in English, so more people can have access to it. (It is written in modern Greek)
